With the large amounts of office space within Croydon, there should be scope to create an accelerator program (possibly run in with a corporation as a partner), in which free office space, basic utilities and mentorship can be found.
This will help encourage a migration south of the river and place Croydon on the map as a tech hub. Providing accelerator programs like this for startups can help achieve the borough’s goal of becoming a digital/tech hub in South London.
If you can bring these sorts of programs, which I myself have participated in, you’ll see a positive effect on smaller local businesses too, be that through lunch-time trade, drinks or general shopping. These are effects I’ve seen at various locations which have become fashionable in London (Angel to be precise) and could have that same effect in Croydon if implemented correctly and marketed correctly.
